Determining Which Student Visa is Right For You If your goal is to study in the U.S. as an international student, then you must apply for and receive a U.S. student visa. By receiving a student visa, you are allowed to temporarily reside in the United States for the purposes of completing your education.

F-1 Visa - Academic Student Visa The F-1 student visa is for students attending a full-time degree or academic program at a school, college, or university approved by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in compliance with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). A student is any individual who is temporarily in the United States on an "F, " "J, " "M, " or "Q " visa for the primary purpose of studying at an academic institution or vocational school, and who substantially complies with the requirements of that visa. Student visas allow foreign students to attend educational institutions in the United States. With that privilege comes a host of rules to which student must adhere, or lose their immigration status.
